Alternative to Solar Panels - Wind Turbines
Harness the power of wind with the power of wind turbines. We all know that their is no shortage of wind. These wind powered systems can allow you to reduce and even drop your energy bill all together.A wind turbine is basically an advanced wind mill that converts the kinetic energy of the wind into working electrical energy. Now kinetic energy in its basic, the energy of motion to electrical energy. and movement, so the wind turbine takes the motion of the wind and turns that movement into electrical energy.
Now the difference between the windmill and the wind turbine is that the windmill takes the kinetic energy from the wind and works machinery directly. Meaning that the wind turns the windmill and the turning of the windmill will cause the pump to work. The wind turbine or wind generator takes the kinetic energy from the wind and converts that movement into electricity. Meaning the wind turns the turbine and the turbine converts that movement into electricity and the pump in turn will run off of the electricity generated by the turbine. Not like the windmill that will use kinetic energy to make the pump work. There are several different names that a wind turbine goes by. Here are just a few that I know; wind generator, wind power unit, wind energy converter, or aero generator. The most commonly use wind turbine is the horizontal axis, there is a less commonly use turbine and it rotates on a vertical axis.
Wind turbines consist of a tower, gearbox, rotor shaft, wind vane, wind sensor, servo motor, and blades. Smaller do not use wind sensor and servo motors. They only use wind vanes, gearbox and tower. Wind turbines have a main rotor shaft and electrical generator at the top of the tower. This top component must be pointed into the wind to generate electricity. On big turbines the wind sensor picks up the winds direction and the motor turn the turbine in the direction of the wind. On smaller turbines a wind vane keeps up with the winds direction.
